North to get extra E585m for roads

The North is set to get an extra E585m for road improvements on
top of the E1.46bn already allocated

A big percentage of it is expected to be allocated west of the
River Bann where the standard of roads is among the worst in the
country

Co Fermanagh and greater Derry are among the regions likely to
benefit

The £1 billion programme was announced last December

Full details on exactly where the Department of Regional
Development is proposing to spend the extra money will be
announced later today by the roads minister David Cairns

To be fair to the NIO, Translink is the last state owned railway (or bus) company in the UK, and they have spent money on it. Half the Enterprise, all of the new railcar fleet and, as we have pointed out ad nauseum on this very site, they hvae a really good PR, customer focused information service.

True, they are run on a shoestring, but in many ways they are a lot better than IE.

Finally, dont forget that the Northern Ecomony is a basket case, they really need investment up there. What part of greater derry and Fermanagh should gets rail as opposed to roads?
