The Amalgamated Transport and General Workers' Union (ATGWU) has called for all Irish workers to be granted pay increases every year at the same level of economic growth.

The measure is part of a new "wage model" proposed by the union today as a means of maintaining workers' living standards.

The model also calls for a €20 flat-rate payment to all workers and measures to allow employees to seek additional increases from highly profitable firms.

The ATGWU says its model would be a vast improvement on the "one-size-fits-all" deals that have been negotiated under the social partnership process.
