Default Dublin Waterford Timetable

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has heard any rumours about the new 2009 timetable for the Waterford line, whether there will be any changes/new services etc?

Thanks

But thats the 2008 timetable

2009 due May/June,

Best case train every 2 hours clockface with the Carlow trains filling the gap at rush hour

Expected, no real change

Worst case, say goodbye to the 20:05 to Carlow

Default Thoughts on the Carlow and Waterford service.

The 2005 Dublin to Carlow seems to enjoy quite a good level of patronage, it would be a shame to see it discontinued. While users will have a coach alternative at similar times [viz. J.J. Kavanagh's Dublin-Tramore route (for Carlow) and their Dublin-Clonmel route for Athy.] this is not realistic on a daily basis due to the additional cost.

I understand there was a later train Dublin-Carlow a few years ago (circa 2200)?

Ideally it would be good if the almost four hour afternoon gap in services on the Waterford line could be filled. No Waterford-bound train between 1130 and 1505.
In the reverse direction nothing from e.g. Carlow between 1621 and 2002 - so the train doesn't suit most workers.

With the 22000s on the route it should now be possible to reduce Kilkenny dwell time to circa 4 minutes on every train. 1045 ex Waterford generally seems to have a prolonged wait in Athy - upwards of 10mins. I feel it could leave Waterford at 1050 and still depart Athy 1222.

1505 ex Dublin (arr. Waterford 1740) needs to connect with the 1734 Waterford-Rosslare, possibly through retiming the latter and using the bay platform at Waterford.

Other than train length, is there any reason that train couldn't continue onwards from Waterford to Rosslare?

And if you used two three-car sets, could you split with one three-car continuing?

I guess the 1740 arrival in Waterford is the same train that returns to Heuston at 1825 and while a 6-car certainly could be split (with one set continuing to Rosslare) perhaps it would create problems the following morning at Heuston by only being a 3-car.

Haven't travelled on the 1505 Dublin to Waterford since it became 22000 operated so am unaware if it's a 3 car or 6 car.

I think the ideal solution is to run the set already based overnight at Rosslare Europort all the way through to Galway. It would be much more efficient than the current fragmented service where Rosslare-Waterford, Waterford-Limerick and Limerick-Ennis are effectively stand-alone services.
