![]() No surprise to participants in this discussion board! If people are not fired either at the RPA or the DOT, then this kind of thing will go on and on and on. And if public sector rules forbid firing, then individuals should be named and their personnnel records and/or CVs should have the information which ensures that at least they will not get promoted.
The precedents are simply awful. There has been one fairly recent case of an enforced resignation of a very senior civil servant because of failure to advise a minister properly. What happened? He got an equally well-paid job in another state organisation as a consolation prize. Some consolation! Not only are people not being fired, they are not even being named, for fear of a letter from Sue, Grabbit and Runne. |

![]() RPA, forget about Smart cards. Getting a revenue sharing agreement that allows us to use existing magstripe on all mediums. Once we can do this, work on a "Smart" system.
You are building from the roof down on this one. |

![]() We are going to need to spend some cash to make this work but there is one clear warning
Smartcard Ticketing =/= Integrated Ticketing, the RPA have shown us that and it appears Dublin Bus are going to as well There will always be a need for a single point to point ticket a smartcard is a stored credit device, Joe Tourist isn't going to shell out for one if they are only here for a day or so Stage one is to maximise the existing infrastucture, so IE ticket machines issue tickets to Luas destinations and vice versa, simple as the machines are the same. We have an undertaking from Irish Rail to make to possible to buy a ticket to "Dublin City Centre" from the vending machines in the next few weeks so there is progress. We need public awareness of the existing ticketing options, many people are missing out since they don't know, can't find out or have been told by poorly trained staff Again the issue here becomes fear of the operators as integrated ticketing means discounted fares compared to the current situation which leads to a loss of revenue http://www.platform11.org/campaigns/...ted_ticketing/ enough said Last edited by Mark Gleeson : 04-04-2006 at 10:11. |
