Unhappy Slow 18:05 service

Is there any reason that the 18:05 to Longord runs so slow most nights to Maynooth given that the train in front of it on the line is timetabled to leave at 17:47.

I sometimes get the 17:47 train (it comes from Bray) and it never arrives in Maynooth before 18:30 (the old timetable had it arriving at 18:23!) so the 18:05 was always crawling along behind.
