AFTER YEARS OF falling passenger numbers in Irish Rail- apart from a stabilisation in 2013-they are now on the increase.

In the first 6 months of this year, 18.3 million journeys were made compared to 17.8 million in the same period last year.

That’s an increase of 500,000 (2.7%).

Intercity up 5% to 4 million with Cork numbers up 7%
Dublin/Cork Commuter up 3.6% to 6.4 million
DART up 0.8% to 7.9 million

I know that they have lost passengers commuting to/from Hazelhatch/Celbridge as the Xpresso (67X) offers a better service.

At most 5-8,000 over the 3 days and that's being very generous with numbers.

Still 490,000+ others.

Would of being good if they gave greater detail on the IC performance.

The Garth Brooks debacle will put a small dent in the numbers for the second half.

That would be against commercial confidentiality. Sure no other railway in the world would do it.

If they are willing to say Cork saw 7% growth then why not say it about the rest. Nothing specific but % up or down. Remember Cork passengers were not burned by the capacity changes to the same extent as other routes. We do know that the 9.99 sale did well for them.

Not sure it will impact negatively however we will see the real performance in numbers.
