New Locomotives taking a long time to deliver
This was a response from Iarnród Éireann to a email i sent them in 2008
I think it was do with one the 201's breaking down and passengers where left stranded for hours in Templemore or Portlaoise anyway the response i got was this. Quote:
I am wondering did they ever have plans to introduce new locomotives or did they mix up the word Locomotive with the DMU's they rolled out. |

There was at the time a plan to acquire a 125mph capable diesel locomotive which would take over Dublin Cork and possibly Dublin Belfast.
The absence of money has put an infinite hold on the plans. Double heading has been ruled out on fuel cost grounds there is a minor technical issue with the push pull controls as well as the door controls get messed up Reliability Dublin Cork is pretty good by international standards, certainly better now than the Mk3 era. Its far better than Dublin Belfast.
