[24-9-2006] 19.30 Cork Dublin
Reports have come in that the 19.30 ex Cork service to Dublin had a problem en-route. Apparently a number of coaches filled with smoke and the train was halted between Charleville and Limerick Junction. The train is believed to be one of the new Mk4s. Unconfirmed reports say that the doors were opened to ventilate the train. Railcars were summoned from Limerick to the junction to provide cover. The last known whereabouts of the train, was in the vicinity of Knocklong, moving slowly northwards.
The exact cause of the smoke is currently unknown. |

Here we go again
We have lost count of the number of incidents involving the new trains which have left passengers seriously delayed Best guess on past history is that the smoke originated from a failure in the braking system. This results in a thick grey smoke with a heavy smell of burning carbon The airconditioning is meant to immediately lock down if smoke is detected Train is well over an hour late when it go moving again it will be exteremly late into Dublin Full 100% refund applies http://www.platform11.org/passenger_...hp#their_fault No noitice on IE website |

This is what the IE web site tells you currently.
Quote:
RTE Teletext runs very efficient Airport info. Maybe its about time IE started to embrace 1980s technology, just to start with. A real time facility for arr and dep info on our rail network is long since passed the point of mere necessicity. |

I was at a trade gig about 10 years ago and the IE crew had a normal PC over a modem (this was the era of 14400) and I could see every train over the entire DART area and all nicely color coded by there on time status
This is easy stuff |

Confirmed it was a brake fault which was the source of smoke, brakes no end of trouble on the new trains
