Default Why do depotmen wave green flags?

I'm sure there must be someone who can inform me the reason why depotmen are required to show the green flag to drivers at rural stations? This is a trick question.

Not just rural stations, it happens on dispatched trains at Pearse and elsewhere as well. It's simply to let them know that it's safe for them to leave.

Ah ha! So how do they know if it is safe to leave unmanned stations such as Rathdrum?

I can see any purpose in this thread, there is no passenger issue. The answer is DOO and the thread is closed
