Default Missing DART/Commuter Maps

Today I took the DART from the city centre out to Killiney. The car I was in (8603) had no DART/Commuter maps, and it's not one of the latest batch with lights indicating the current postion. THe space over the all four doors was just empty.

I don't travel that far south very often, and while I know the line fairly well, I found myself wondering "is it three or four stops to my station?"

However a tourist, or anyone else who's not a regular user, would have been baffled, and would have been in danger of missing their stop, or at least having to dash for the doors when they realised they were there.

It's not very hard to make sure every coach has at least two (and preferably four) maps. I know an absurd number of them were nicked from the DART for the 2900s.

We're long overdue an updated may, reflecting a significant number of changes that have occurred in the city. There's no way we can wait for the Interconnecor, and there will probably be other changes which will require further reprintings in the next few years.

Considering we've noticed a marked improvement in the PIS systems on DART and Commuter trains since we've been reporting failures there, how about reporting instances of missing maps. I think every pair of doors should have at least one map, so any carriage which doesn't have at least two is worth reporting.

This was brought to the attention of the DART manager Tom Devoy who claims its vandals

Normally we don't make public the details of what goes on the in the backrgound but

Quote:
Regarding the provision of non electronic maps, a number of these have been vandalised over time. Currently we are updating our route map and within the next couple of weeks we will be placing the new maps in all DART and Railcar carriages.
That was 5th Feb, follow up letter not answered probably since I insisted the maps where nicked for the 29000 fleet, I have witnessed a IE staff member removing a heap of them one morning

IE have a updated map, I have a copy

Of course, in an ideal world that map would have the Luas logo in the top left and show the Luas lines as well.

In an ideal world it would have a "Dublin Transport" logo (or something equivalent), and would encompass the main modes of transport around the city.

I notice that version listed hasn't added "& Donaghmede" to Howth Junction.

How about a dotted line from Pearse to Stephen's Green Luas indicating the closed DART connection?

The main thing is to get them on to every train as soon as possible.

How come the adverts always seem to be in place, yet the route maps disappear? Is it because the ads are changed once a week (or whenever), but they don't bother with the maps? Do IE do this, or is the advertising subcontracted? Surley it would be easy enough to replace missing maps as the ads are changed?

Or even better, have the map seperate to the adverts.. maybe something stuck to the wall (rather than the slide in/out cardboard versions they currently use)
