Reminder: new Cash and Leapcard fares from Mon 2nd December
29 November 2013

Customers are advised that new cash fares across all Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail services, and Leapcard fares in the Dublin area Short Hop Zone, will apply from Monday 2nd December.

This follows the determination on fares issued by the National Transport Authority in October. Full information on the basis for the fares increase application, and the fares which will apply from 2nd December, is available in the fares determination.

The fares determination also contains details of changes in zoning of some origin-destination station pairs within the Short Hop Zone implemented by the NTA, which will also take effect from Monday 2nd December. Customers who use single, return, or 3-day or 7-day rolling tickets should confirm the zone which will apply to their journey before Monday to ensure they have the correct fare information, although these changes generally apply to station pairings with low patronage.

Customers can get best value through:

Regular commuters: Commuters travelling daily should avail of monthly or annual tickets through Taxsaver which includes tax relief on the cost of your commute.

National train services: Book online for our best fares. Discounts for fares in advance of day of travel, with our best fares available if booked 7 or more days in advance.

Dublin Short Hop Zone: If travelling occasionally, Leapcard offers best fares, which will be lower than cash fares by up to 23%, and new fares lower than 2011 cash fares.

Customers with existing tickets purchasing seat reservation only should note the charge for a seat reservation only ticket will be €5 from Monday. Reservations are free if you purchase your ticket online at irishrail.ie.
