No point really until 2 track appears from Galway to Athenry, you can't provide a reasonable service otherwise.
65,000 is painfully low for that level of capital investment, Midleton was 75 million and will generate 350-400k per annum We need to focus on proper commuter services, Athenry Galway for the same money would probably generate 3 to 4 times the patronage

How could they possibly justify spending so much money to open that line, while closing Waterford-Rosslare, whose passenger numbers aren't much lower.

comcor: its West of the Shannon and therfore totally underdeveloped . Anyhow, you should know that the laws of Economics don't apply West of the Shannon.
