Default Dublin-Belfast-Derry

Evening all,

Has there ever been a direct Dublin-Derry service via Belfast?

With the soon-to-be-completed upgrade of the Belfast-Derry section of track is there a case to be made for Dublin-Derry services? I know this would require new rolling stock but I was just curious about the feasibility of connecting these 3 cities.

Thanks
