Break in journey
I know you can take a break in journey on the way from Thurles to Dublin outward but can you take a break returning? Lets say I get off at Portlaoise

Break of journey is fine on a full-price ticket. Not allowed on online fares.

Subsection 8.2:
http://www.irishrail.ie/media/ConditionsOfTravel1.pdf Have, on occasion, broken journeys and I've never had any issue. A suggestion to consider is to bring a copy of the relevant page of the abovementioned Conditions of Carriage booklet with you. |

Thanks for confirming that. Have one more question.
If I buy a return ticket from Thurles-Sallins can I buy an extension when I finish my business in Naas that would take me to Heuston and return to Thurles? Last edited by Destructix : 15-06-2013 at 04:48. |

I see what you are trying to do as Thurles - Sallins - Heuston is cheaper as two tickets
The add on 'extension' will be what you paid for the ticket you hold against the full ticket price so same as Thurles Dublin. No staffed office in Sallins so can't get an extension ticket there. Won't make any difference, Thurles Dublin return as one ticket will be the same price and avoids any potential hassle with extension tickets and so on Note the break of journey is valid same day only

The only way to Sallins from Thurles is to change at Portlaoise so if I buy a return ticket to Dublin can I get off at Portlaoise and get the 15:20 Portlaoise to Sallins get off for an hour to collect something in Naas and then resume my journey to Dublin?

You can but you won't save any money. You can't split tickets with two separate day returns as it's against the conditions of carriage.

It's not to save money I just need to get to Naas and then Dublin on the same day.
