That was one of the days that sparked the Nationalist article. The story as told to me by the ticket checker (in person, not announced) was that the person who was sent out to open the barrier couldn't unlock it.

Driver, guard and checker all had a go but they had to get someone else to come out with more/other keys.

Personally I'd have been all for breaking it and have the guy who couldn't unlock it mind it for the day until it got repaired.
