I actually have this on DVD, it's a good watch.
I suspect the producers chose this route because it covers a bunch of lines and route mileage their previous DVDs(Dublin-Cork, Dulin-Sligo, and some stuff west of Athlone) haven't.
It certainly doesn't show any great connectivity along the "corridor"- there are 4 separate drivers, three separate trains and two changes for a virtual passenger involved in the film.
