This is a pretty accurate reflection of the Sligo line. Yes, in fairness, we did get a big increase in frequency during the day (which is of no use to commuters) about 4 years ago after the resignalling but since then journey times have gone up marginally and reliability has gone down the toilet - particularly in the autumn.
The biggest improvement I can see for all this money is that I can now plug my laptop in on the train and sometimes I even get power.
The 22ks are nice and shiny but I preferred the old carriages. They had a nicer atmosphere with the wood panelling and they were a lot quieter. The 22ks are very harsh - they really could have done with consulting with an interior designer even to the point of using a slightly warmer colour palette.
