Suspicious device found in Dublin's IFSC

GardaÃ* are investigating the discovery of a suspicious device along the LUAS line in Dublin's IFSC this afternoon.

The discovery was made in the last hour and the Army Bomb Disposal Team is on route to the scene.

LUAS passengers are advised that the red line service is currently suspended between Abbey St and the O2 venue.

Arrests made after Docklands armed robbery

Two men have been arrested following an armed robbery at O'Briens Sandwich Bar at the IFSC in Dublin's Docklands.

The men, who were armed with knives, held up staff at the shop at 2.45pm.

An amount of money was taken but no one was injured.

Arising out of the hold-up, the army bomb squad was called to the area shortly after 3pm after a device was discovered near the Luas line.

According to gardaÃ*, the device found on the LUAS line was thrown by one of the men escaping the robbery.

Luas Red line services were briefly suspended as a result and an area including a section of the Docklands Christmas market was sealed off.

The area has now been cleared and is returning to normal.

Luas services resume after alert

Luas services were suspended for some time this afternoon following a security alert on the Red Line near George’s Dock in Dublin.

Shortly before 2.45pm two men, one armed with a knife, entered an O’Brien’s Sandwich Bar outlet in the area and stole a quantity of cash.

When making their getaway one of the men dropped a suspicious looking device near the Luas tracks sparking the alert.

GardaÃ* sealed off the area and an Army bomb disposal team examined the package.

One man was arrested at the scene and a second man detained a short time later.

Luas services have fully resumed.
