Line is reopened, single line working Portarlington Portlaoise

Serious delays of up to 3 hours to certain trains, some cancellations.

As usual no indication of refunds etc

17.45hrs 16th August 2008

The 11.00hrs Dublin-Cork service this morning struck debris from a landslide on the line, approximately a quarter-mile south of Portarlington Station.

The locomotive of the train partially derailed as a result. No other carriages derailed, and thankfully nobody on board was injured.

There will be major disruption to all services between Dublin and Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Galway and Westport. However, one of the two tracks has reopened, and services are operating, albeit with major delays.

Westport Route:

13.10 Westport to Heuston: operating with delays
12.40 Heuston to Westport ; Running 120 minutes late, will be terminated at Claremorris. Bus Transfers to Castlebar, Ballina. Westport
