Extra Trains from Maynooth tomorrow for GAA?

Anyone hear of any extra trains running on the Maynooth line tomorrow?

They usually thrown a few extra trains on when Dublin are playing in Croke Park but nothing on the IR site.

Any posters up in the stations?

The game is not even a sell out. Not gonna happen.

Trampas 07-06-2009 07:40

Thanks.

Thought they might since there is only 1 train every hour.

IR put on extra trains yesterday but forgot to tell anyone.

Which of course lead to hundreds of people going for the one train an hour.

I got the 1335 from Maynooth and a dozen standing leaving Maynooth in my carriage.

By Clonsilla it was very tight and people kept squeezing on as the journey went on.

Around around 10 mins late arriving into Drumcondra and everyone a bit lighter from been in a sauna.

Hey Trampas, apologies for the late reply but I have been mastering the Dutch rail system amongst other things over the last couple of days I have been popping in and out through the mobile but have not had the chance to make any posts!

Anyway, There was little or no doubt that extra trains would be run, I was in connolly station 2 weeks ago (i think!) when there were minor games on at croker and despite there been no signs up at any of the stations no notices on the website nothing on the online timetable there were extra trains running from connolly station and it was even displayed on the large destination screen (not the DART one) as "special service"

This happens nearly every week during the summer GAA season and I am sure MarkG will correct me if i'm wrong but I think these extra services are integrated into the staff working timetable (not the passenger one) meaning the resources are always there!

These extra services as you have spotted are never advertised on the website, either by notice or on the timetable. Your best bet will be to contact your local station when asking these questions. Some stations (eg clonsilla) are really helpful and post notices up showing the times and will advise you if you ring and query these questions. I would suggest you contact your station on the friday before the match (clonsilla, coolmine, castleknock are great help!) and ask this question. They will be able to tell you if any extra are on. Otherwise ring the central telephone service!

Hope this helps for future reference! :)

I got the 12:45 from Clonsilla last Sunday.
It was 90% full by the time it arrived.
No signs up in Clonsilla to indicate if there were any extra specials being provided for Match Day.
There were a good number of people waiting to get on at Clonsilla more than the normal morning rush hour amount - easily 100-120
Just managed to squeeze on and stand by the first pole inside the door (I think her name was Agneta) - the aisles were full.
Temperatures soared
All at Coolmine squeezed on - I mean squeezed on
Temperatures soared higher
Castleknock - half the people left behind. One woman squeezed on with her young son (and had a row with a rubbadubDub)
Phoenix Park - about 25 there, none got on (after making their way to the station in the middle of nowhere)
TF for the bit of fresh air from the open doors.
Ashtown - no one got on.
Broombridge - about 40 people waiting (is this a record?) none got on.
More fresh air though
Drumcondra - egress like something in Tokyo central.

Was it a 4-car set or an 8-car set?

It ended up a 7 car after the Dubs got off!

Did I mention the squeeze?

And they're back on the 28 June- OMG

Trampas 11-06-2009 08:30

The one I was on was 8 car.

Maybe IR next time could put some type of timetable up save everyone going for the one train

Mark Gleeson 11-06-2009 08:31

They where mainly 8 coach

There is a list in the staff timetable, but its hard to know which ones run for a given throw in time

12:00, 13:00, 14:00 Maynooth Connolly

17:10, 17:50. 18:10 Connolly Maynooth

All times are GMT. The time now is 08:50.
