Validating Annual Tickets
Got my new bright yellow annual bus & rail ticket there the other day which starts in January. Seems like there's a chip inside it (holding it up to a light I can see some kind of RFID set-up inside it). I'm just wondering about using it:
1. Will I be able to just 'wave' it at the new exit validators to get through? 2. Will I still have to take it out when going into a station with the older style turnstiles or do they have the RFID thing built into them? 3. On the bus will I need to take it out on can I 'wave' it at that black box that's above the ticket machine on all buses now? |
I take it it has a mag stripe as well?
Almost certainly will work on the bus if you flash it past the black reader on the right side IE aren't half as far as Dublin Bus but I've gone through the Connolly and Docklands gates using the smart card, it may or may not work. The more attentive out there will know the black top old style gates, these where from the 1999 Maynooth line contactless trial When the Luas smartcard came out someone went as far as xraying the card  |
Yep it has a magnetic strip as well. It'd just be so much handier not having to take it in and out of the wallet the whole time.
Thanks Mark. |
The smart card system on Dublin Bus is now in trial mode on the 123 and also some no 16 buses
The 'yellow' annual tickets with the smartcard icon should work There is now something extra attached to the black box on the left side as you enter, that is the actual smart card reader, the silver/black piece you see is actually a mounting bracket it appears And no the bus/rail annuals don't work at the new gates in Connolly etc on a smartcard basis, the system does not accept them, it does successfully read the smartcard though |
