John Lynch on Today FM, 22/1/05

Switched onto Today FM at about 11.10 this morning, John Lynch was on the Sunday Business Show. Only caught the end of it, but sounded like a huge amount of angry texts and emails were coming in. Heard Lynch say that he was sick of journalists asking about integrated ticketing and that it wasn't that bad (that was the jist of it) :(. Anyone else catch it?

Just caught the end of it too. EVERYONE has a right to be angry about the lack of integrated ticketing.

Facts are that we, the public, are being swindled. Its delay after delay after delay after excuses after excuses after excuses. Buck stops with the greedy folks at DoT.

There are measures that are integral to integrated ticketing that can be easily implimented before contactless cards, a regulator is set up and Mrs. O' Mahony comes on board..

1. Zonal Fare system
2. Single Network map

Simple.

All using the mag strip.

Mark Gleeson 22-01-2006 13:07

Mag strip is a fairly idiot proof technolgy, its not the total solution but it can provide the vast majority with integrated ticketing overnight

All rail journeys north and south can be integrated overnight, I can get a Cobh to Derry ticket if I wanted, 1 ticket 5 legs, 4 operators (IE, DB, RPA, Translink) that works today. What doesn't is Tallaght Howth

There already exists a heap of options its just a case of doing a little bit of work to find out which suits you

And for once its not really CIE's fault its the folks in Parkgate Street, the RPA who have sat around and delivered nothing

Am I reading that right? He was annoyed people are asking about integrated ticketing???

It's great to know that he would rather give out about people complaining than try to implement it.

Does Lynch use public transport to get to work or is he chauffeur driven along a QBC?

Maskhadov 23-01-2006 11:35

Why doesnt Bus Eireann not even have integerated ticketing. For example buying one ticket that did two connecting bus journeys (and perhaps a discount even). The ticket situation is pretty poor TBF.

As for integrated ticketing.. If we seen that by 2008 I would be shocked.

Mash..The current Bus Eireann Wayfarer Ticketing system does indeed have the capacity to issue a passenger with a through ticket coverning multiple journeys.
For example a BE customer boarding a 007 in Kilkenny and travelling to Ratoath on a 103 can carry out that transaction on boarding the 007.
However it is a little known feature of the BE ticketing system and although does require a slightly different issuing procedure by the initial Driver should really be publicised more by BE themselves.
It`s like the good Doctor sez.....It sometimes is`nt as bad as the folks in the fourth estate would have us believe.
The various CIE companies do have a wide range of flexible and eminently useable ticketing options but with little CENTRAL impetus for removing the individual cash transaction for EACH journey we see these options remaining hidden away in had to reach places.....
