Clonnydonnin ?
 

On the garaiste website one of the contributors mentioned a train at balbriggan station yesterday.

The destination display of the train stated 'clonnydonnin'. Does anyone know is there or was there ever a station called 'clonnydonnin' and where is clonnydonnin ?

Its the passing loop between Clara and Athlone, it makes a guest appearance from time to time on the timetable as well

ah right!

Its amazing what you can find out with the mixup of destinations that and the maynooth train displaying mosney

In fact it appears there never was a station in Clonnydonnin

Now surely this non existant station appearing on the destination display beats the historic one that displayed on the DART

The fact that Clonnydonnin would be just before Connolly in an alphabetical list probably gives a clue as to the software bug causing it- same with Mosney and Maynooth.

True, but the point is there is NO station in Clonnydonnin, never was!

Geashill always had a crossing loop and was a station until sometime in the 1960s. In those days you could not cross passenger trains at Tullamore, Clara (plus ca change), or Ballycumber, which were the other block posts between Athlone and Portarlington, so Geashill had some operational importance..

Ballycumber was so close to Clara is was pretty useless, and it was replaced by Clonydonnin, which was a greenfield site, when the Galway and Mayo trains were diverted to Heuston.

I reckon the reson these non-stations get into the PIS is that the signalling system may be programmed with them for operational purposes, and they copied over into whatever runs the PIS.

I won't mention the invisible station between Athenry and Galway which has recently appeared, no loop no nothing its just a level crossing

Can you imagine that face on some of the clonnydonnin folk if they were taking a train and all of a sudden their hometown is announced ! Is it far between clonnydonnin and the next stopping station

does the ctc record when a train passes a level cropping ?

Its a cheat to allow two trains to travel at between Athenry and Galway at the same time in the same direction. It only allows a single extra train an hour, Healy's as it is now known.

Its all really a lack of attention to detail, sure the staff need to know but how an earth it finds its way into the automatic announcement system is beyond me

it also gets out of hand when you see it on the destination displays on trains in the connolly area !

Station information seems particularly mad lately
 

I was on a Longford train earlier in the week that was indicating an ultimate destination of Manulla Junction where AFAIK you can't even get off.

We set off for Manulla Junction by way of Laytown, Rosslare and Nenagh. I got off at Edgeworthstown at which stage it was heading on for somewhere equally bizzarre but I've forgotten where.

Surely this sort of thing shouldn't even be possible.

However, on a positive note, I do like on one of the Sligo 22k sets that now says how far it is it to the next station when it isn't tell you not to sit in prebooked seats that can't even be booked.

seat booking is available on morning services to Sligo and evening services from Sligo. It will appears on peak hour services

im hazarding a guess that the train was showing rosslare as the next stop when approaching maynooth. I have seen maynooth trains display rosslare as the destination in the last couple of weeks.

I saw a train fly past clonsilla the other day displaying manulla junction as the destination.

This is getting beyond a joke. Are irish rail aware and doing anything about this ?

Sligo line booking - a bit off topic
 

Why on earth would you pay 3 quid to book an early morning service to Sligo. We just passed the 0705 from Connolly to Sligo in Enfield (At 0819 I might add) and I couted three people aside from the driver on the entire train.

This must be them working out the bugs :). In any case, booking is a step backwards for commuters. There is no way I would pay 3 quid for a one-way seat booking given that is pretty much what my taxsaver ticket costs me on a per-journey basis.

Thats why its not available at peak times
