Seapoint booking office gutted

Seapoint stations booking office was destroyed by fire 2 weekends ago and according to the staff there it will be shut for the foreseeable future leaving the vending machine to run the station . Went down for a look its all boarded up . Local word is while it was unmanned on weekend it was broken into and during a failed robbery they torched the place and did a calousal amount of damage to the booking office interior

Was meaning to post that sometime before Easter

Station has been unstaffed every weekend for the last 2 months or so, the counter was a glass screen so no protection from vandals, its a miracle it lasted as long as it did

And that is a direct result of the station being unmanned at weekends. How many more stations are at risk of this?

Having unmanned stations is asking for trouble.

Only the LUAS can get away with being unmanned.

I thought RUI wanted all stations unmanned. :D

More we want staff on platforms, not hidden in the office / staff room.

Can someone take a picture?

Tried last week, didn't come out. Will try again tomorrow

Gutted is not the term I'd use, the booking hall is absolutely untouched, the glass screen is gone and replaced with hardboard as is the door into the booking office. The ticketing issuing machine looks to have been removed

More detailed investigation

It wasn't vandals, appears more like a pre planned robbery.

Reports from staff suggest whoever done it showed up on site with an angle grinder and cut their way through the booking office door and then through the next door into the back room in search of the safe. They escaped without the cash. Curiously the TVM was left untouched

A small fire followed as they sliced some electrical cables while trying to get through a door which has left a small mark on the wall. Ticket machine and computer gone. The door frame for the door between office and kitchen is missing

Otherwise office looks fully intact and undamaged, in fact excellent in comparison with some other stations

Pics later

Quite a lot of text as well!

Booking office acquired a new steel door last week, still no sign of staff returning

Mark Gleeson 14-08-2009 18:52

Round two last night

The vandals actually did us a favour by burning out the three large bins the builders had dumped in the laneway outside the station. The horrible eyesore is now gone :D
