There is an extra train in the evening we hear in the slot which Irish Rail told us didn't exist when we asked for it ages back

Where it goes and where it calls we don't know

TheBoss 16-10-2007 14:56

Anyone hear about any changes for Portlaoise route - ex heuston in particular?

Mark Gleeson 06-11-2007 14:41

17:35 to Athy is rumoured to be a runner in the 2008 timetable, that will do wonders to deal with the overcrowding on the Waterford trains either side of it, it will also take a stop away from the 17:25 to Limerick

19:25 to Limerick, another likely, used to exist ages back on Fridays. This will fill a fairly large gap in the timetable for many small stations. This may take the Portlaoise stop off the 19:00 to Cork which will hopefully overtake the 18:40 to Thurles again

Beyond that no extra trains are expected, slight changes to existing services, possible extensions on some very early trains

Serious changes to be expected 2009 once the railcar deport in Portlaoise is up and running which will mean several early morning services to Dublin and several late evening ones back. 2010 will be a massive change again

TheBoss 06-11-2007 14:58

Hear that the 17.25 ex heuston will no longer stop at sallins.

Also rumour of a new 6.30 a.m. service from Portlaoise to Heuston.

Mark Gleeson 06-11-2007 15:07

6:30 is possible but its not an extra train its just the 6:59 Kildare Heuston extended to start from Portlaois

If that comes to pass the question of the 22:45 to Portlaoise is back on the table

Eh? The 0659 ex Kildare starts from Carlow at 0630.

Sean

Mark Gleeson 07-11-2007 16:46

Sorry meant the 6:35 ex Kildare which would be 6:10 out of Portlaois

Alternatively they swap them around

Given this all depends on extra trains IE don't have most of these additions are unlikely to happen this side of Christmas

Hi

I asked the guys in the office at Portlaoise train station this morning about any minor/major timetable changes. They said that there will be a 06:30am service to Heuston starting from Portlaoise.

Just passing on what they told me.

The 17.25 no longer stops in Sallins but the 17.35 does instead.

No sign of the 19.25 to Limerick (with a Sallins stop :) ) but we're pushing for something in that gap.

Later last train 23.00 out of Heuston.

Rest of timetable broadly unchanged.

Mark Gleeson 16-11-2007 14:05

There is a train to Sallins at 18:50, its a one seat journey but its a little on the slow side

Wasn't in the timetable we saw - is that definitely in the timetable or are you suggesting that as a possibility to fill the gap?

Forgive my ignorance but what do you mean by 'one seat journey'?

thanks

James_Lawless 16-11-2007 14:40

Sorry get you now - you mean 18.50 to Newbridge and then change to come back?

That's been a real thorn in our side all year. Aware there are legal questions about whether its valid or not but people were and are being challenged and at this stage we just want either a clear statement from IR that's its a valid journey or better still just give us a direct train...

CSL 16-11-2007 14:55

sounds like waiting for the same set to go back the other way and getting off at Sallins

That's exactly what it is. You sit on the same train for 10 mins in Newbridge station and then come back again. You may or may not be charged depending on the conductor.

Mark Gleeson 16-11-2007 16:22

We have made the journey before, no problems, it is fully legal under Irish Rail's conditions of travel, they even let us book seats once

Unless you have a spare railcar lying around the service is not going to get better

The only way to plug the gap would be to sacrfice a rush hour service. The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few so that isn't happening

19:15 to Galway isn't stopping and won't be nor will the 19:25 to Limerick if it runs

Its a better evening rush hour than last year be grateful IE didn't try the classic reduction in service leaked draft routine

New timetable for 2008 on IE website

Just checked out the IE website - new timetable for 2008 can be found here.

You can find all the 2008 timetables here too.

It's good to be back...
:)

James_Lawless 07-12-2007 17:39

Pleased to say we finally made some progress on that gap in the evening timetable for Sallins station.

Heard back from IR this week that the 18.50 Heuston-Newbridge would be stopping in Sallins from Monday on. Won't be timetabled but will be a functioning service. Secret like the 7.15 and 17.15 last year, another NASRUG 'special' :)

Fair play to IR for meeting us half way on this one. Thanks to P11 too for the technical assistance on the issue.
