Like Dublin Nite Bus:
- Do they only operate one way only and assume no one could possibly be wanting to go in the opposite direction?
- Perhaps they stop to pick up at about every 10th stop?

Not trying to be smart, just a bit of a bugbear of mine and late night Dublin transport.

Don't see a need for return workings, it would only cater for a handful of passengers at best and not worth it.

Brief comment re: Dublin Bus night services

I'm not sure if the Dublin Bus Nitelink is classified as commercial or as part of the public service obligation but either way buses would often be running along part if not most/all of a route on the way back to the garage/for the next run (where applicable) so better to earn a bit of revenue whereas an empty out of service bus earns a guaranteed zero.

Incidentally the three Bus Éireann Nightrider routes from Dublin operate in both directions.

Irish Rail were canvassing their twitter followers about a night Dart service this year - did anything come of that?

Mark Gleeson 28-11-2013 10:24

Nitelink operates on a commercial licence.

As far as I know the licence does not cover return workings

That used to be (and possibly still is) one of the rationales for running route 91.

Just 2 trains between Dublin and Belfast on 1 Jan, that a very bad service, clearly its not IE's decision as all there intercity routes have 5 or more services running.

Mark Gleeson 04-12-2013 00:01

Thats been the schedule for many years.
