06:10 Waterford-Heuston - Ongoing delays

22/10/2007 - Train was 1/2 hour delayed by the time it reached Carlow.

No reason given for the delay.

However, In Carlow the manager organised free Tea/Coffee from the station shop for delayed passengers.

Arrived in Heuston only 10 minutes late (so about the usual time  )

Reason given on arrival was "due to unforseen circumstances beyond our control"

I asked the ticket checker, and he said it was because the gate-keeper (somewhere near Waterford) didn't show up. Again.

In the last 6 working days, this service has reached Athy an average of 20 minutes late (best was 7 minutes late, worst was 36 minutes late), and reached Heuston an average of just over 12 minutes late (best was 3 minutes early, the only early arrival, and worst was 25 minutes late).

In other words, there has been a total delay on arrival at Heuston of 76 minutes in just 6 days. Pathetic.

Kudos to the Carlow manager. That was nice gesture, considering that it's not his fault - at least he was doing what he could to make things a bit better for the passengers. This is the sort of Irish Rail we want.

However, the manager responsible for the Waterford gatekeeper should be fired (along with the mythical gatekeeper!) for not taking responsibility for the resolution of this ongoing issue.

But if you write to IE at the correct address http://www.railusers.ie/passenger_in...plaints.php#ne

Will they admit they have screwed up, or will it be the usual aliens landed style story followed by the we are investing yadda yadda

Help needed from my fellow commuters!

Folks,

The kind people at the Kildare Nationalist are going to do a article on what we are going through as commuters. I have been forwarding as much correspondance that I have on the issue, but as I do not get the train everyday I might be missing a lot of the crucial info.

Would appreciate if you could drop them an email detailing your experiences, as we all know that there is a huge amount of people affected by what IE are doing and we need to show some people power!

aoife.barry@kildare-nationalist.ie

Cheers all!

When I telephoned yesterday they admitted that it was the gatekeeper that was the problem yesterday. For last Tuesday she was able to identify wheel slip and a door problem as the likely causes; apparently wheel slip was widespread that day. And for last Wednesday, doors again (although they were only 7 mins behind out of Athy that day).

Is that the gate in Granny?

I didn't catch the name. Ballysomething, Ballykeale perhaps? Not familiar with the area.

12 mins late today into Heuston 'due to circumstances beyond their control'. No electricity in Athy station this morning either....must be the cost cutting going into effect!
mmmmmm

Mark Gleeson 25-10-2007 09:28

Its either Newrath which is on the double track section coming in Waterford or Ballyreddin, Ballyreddin is automatic though

It might not make much of a difference, but our campaign in the media has begun. The Kildare Nationalist is due to run a story this week so get your comments in to them asap!! We need to stress how many people this is affecting.
