20.10 Heuston to Carlow will operate to Athy only. Bus transfers will operate from Athy to Carlow.

21.35 Carlow to Heuston will be bus transfers from Carlow to Athy and by train from Athy to Heuston. Buses will leave Carlow at 21.35hrs and train will leave Athy at 22.00.

Iarnród Éireann apologises for any inconvenience this may cause

Wow, that's a bit ridiculous. Surely the exercise can be scheduled at such a time and place as to not cause disruption.

Is this Irish Rail or someone else carrying out the exercise?

If Irish Rail, surely this would be a perfect use of the Waterford-Rosslare line.

Colm Moore 29-03-2012 14:38

I can only imagine its a joint emergency services-Irish Rail exercise.

As Waterford-Rosslare is closed, there isn't a particular need to have an exercise there.

Think it has to be something to do with getting to the line in an emergency. No level crossing and very limited road access to the rail ine.

Could they reviewing the way in which they handled the insident a while ago when it took quiet some time to for staff to get to the train.

Jamie2k9 01-04-2012 00:49

The emergency exercise was to test response times to reach a train if an accident has happened and as Colm said it was a joint exercise and it was ment to affect passengers services as would happen in a real emergency.

Regardless it is completely unacceptable to cancel a public service

This was planned so no real surprise
