Cherry Orchard/Park West .... Beware

This is just a warning. We have had one of the girls in the office flashed at/attacked in the early evening at this station.

Park West have said they are going to station a security gd there around the time a train is due ( we have to see if this happens ).

We also got a letter from IE CEO ( via the minister's office ) saying they would step up security there.

But just be aware of this , and carry a personal alarm or similar down there.

The statation as we know is being moved so we will see if that improves things

Now that Adamstown is open, does anybody know the status of the Park West or Fonthill station relocations ? Seems like there's nothing going on to me ...

I'm guessing the Park West station will be near enough to where park west avenue crosses the track ?

Harcourt Developments are still to lodge their app for 1000+ new homes reported last summer ... perhaps it will be included / tied in to their application ?

Station relocations are all part and parcel of the 4 tracking project.

Do you know when the station is planned to move ?

Cherry Orchard will remain open until Park West station opens, probable Cherry Orchard will close one evening after the last train and Park West open the following morning.

Park West will be manned all day and be fully accessible to latest standards

Obviously it will be at least a year possibly more before the change happens and it will be advertised.

Now live in the area so obviously am an interested party ;)

No construction, preliminary or otherwise, has started on site, so i'd say you're looking at minimum 2 years until its ready.

The planning app is dated September 06 & includes the construction of a large concourse / plaza over the track with usual marketing talk of retail / restaurants etc. Model was seemingly on display in city council offices, ballyfermot.

oh, so quite a sizeable undertaking then. If all these additional services are attached to it, then it will be very well monitored and taken care of - quite a change from the unattended obstacle course we are currently faced with :) Sounds great !

Looks like work might just have started at Park West, construction workers began yesterday clearing an access path from roadway down to the rail track at the site of the new station.

I know for sure that the start of work at Hazlehatch is imminent.

Work has started on the Park West station alright. Sisk are the contractors, duration 45 weeks, to be finished by this time next year basically.

They have security at Park West?? Last time I ventured there were kids were trying to set fire to the station with no luck. there appears to be no security there at all. Also from the Park West you have to cross over a very desolate bridge and they cross another bridge to access the station???

I had fallen for the advert of a new station at Park West only to find it was the same old Cherry Orchard station which looks like something out of a 'Post Nuclear Winter Horror Movie'

Construction of the new station started last week, It is being relocated 700m west, where park west avenue crosses the track, beside the 'park west pointe' apartments, will look similar to Adamstown.

Cherry Orchard station will be dismantled i assume & the sooner the better.

Got a flyer in the post about 18 months ago indicating a new Arrow station, It was of course the Cherry Orchard station but indicated on the map as being PARK WEST. Think it was some over optimistic flyer as it also showed the famous bus way along the Nangor Road that only recently got its busses delivered. If they close the Cherry Orchard stop will the locals on the C.O. side be able to access the new station or will it be accessible only through the Park West Industrial Estate.

Access is to be improved from the Cherry Orchard side - the new 'town centre' is to be located on the vast tract of wasteland to the right of the new station which will alter the emphasis of the area.

Overall approx 1800 units are to be built as part of the town centre scheme with a further 1000 as part of park west 'sector three', which encompases the undeveloped area around the days hotel.

The road in front of my window here in Park West is all blocked up this morning, and a traffic diversion is in place, ready for road improvement works to start - no doubt they are gettting the road ready for rail infrastructure.

As part of Transport 21, the Kildare to Heuston line is being upgraded to provide a higher frequency and capacity rail service directly benefiting Park West, which is one stop after Heuston - Dublin's main rail terminus.
Work on doubling the number of tracks from two to four is underway and construction is about to commence on a new train station 900 metres west of the existing Cherry Orchard station which is due for completion on the 30th of June, 2008.

Harcourt Developments is wholly financing the new station for Irish Rail as part of its planning permission for Sector 3. The new station will benefit the residents of the apartments and the business park in general. The station should be fully operational with trains stopping by September 2008..

Hopefully they will amend the timetable to have more trains actually stopping here then as a lot more trains pass through than stop, even if the final destination is only Kildare etc they don't all stop here.

Hi all, it looks like the station will be completed on time, but there is a revised date already for the laying of the tracks.

2.1 New Train Station. Work began on this project last June and is on target for completion by end of July 2007. When the station has been completed Iranróid Éireann will then continue the installation of the 4 tracks into Heuston Station, which will take a further 12 months to complete. This will give us a full commuter service on the Dublin Kildare route operating from Park West by July 2009

Now taking bets that it'll be 2010 before it's active.

I have to say it's highly questionable, not to mention dangerous, having unmanned halts on the suburban network.
