And we got well blank, no PIS no auto announcements. Its a really bad show from IE, there was a manual PA and it was a bit hard to hear But to the credit of the driver or ticket checker we where told that the train was to pull into the main Cork platform instead of the turnback, no idea why but I've never seen a train empty so fast ever We where told we where late while waiting due to classic late arrival they could have told us why since they clearly And yes I saw the CDE set today and the displays read Cork |
Customer Information Displays on Platforms
I've heard that for the Customer Information Displays on the platforms to work on they must be connected to the Main Signalling Control Computer in Connolly. Currently Greystones, Drogheda, Dundalk and the Maynooth Line are not connected to this main signalling computer in Connolly CTC and are instead controlled locally.
I've also heard that due to manning levels and technical issues in CTC Connolly, the displays at these locations will probably not be connected to the main computer and thence the Info Displays until the Suburban re-signalling is completed (DASH Phase 2). So it will be at least a couple of more years before these displays will work properly. |

Its taken 3 and a half months to just a get a test train in service
This issue was brought to the attention of the manager in charge in October, the fact that the PIS system was flakey and would almost certainly not work This was followed a by a letter in December and now in February we are told there is a trial version of updated software on test. I cannot understand why IE didn't bother to record the audio clips for every single station in one go, its just a case of loading the train computer with the timetable, it should work for every route from day one without question, its a small network Unacceptable, in fact this would be illegal in the UK..... But it does show that armed with details we can get a result of sort |

Thursday 2-3-2006
Last night was great fun.
After 30 minute wait a train to Greystones showed up, after 25 minutes of "1 Bray Delay" on the display board in Pearse On board the maps showed a northbound train to Howth about to leave Clontarf Rd. It was next station Killester, destination Howth but the PA called the right stations on the way to Greystones apart of course from Sydney Parade Throughout all the choas yestered I saw not one train showing a correct northbound destination, yes the roller blind has Harmonstown and Kilester on it but not one single train I saw was set correctly though I have seen it in the past |
Not sure if this is the right section of the forum, but i was on the 07.15 service from Port to Heuston this morning with my wife. It was ridiculously cold even taking into account the weather. Its not the first time this has happened. I'm sick of it. I pay enough bloody money for a sh!te service, without having to bring a flippin hot water bottle with me to work. Surely that breaks health regulations?
Does anybody know who I should venting my spleen at? I have submitted polite observations online before with no response. Anybody, please, help? |

IE will not respond to any complaint unless it is made in writing Two Not much point in writting as IE don't write back, we know this. IE will claim they do but experience says otherwise and we can produce a heap of people. Port Laois is classified as intercity so its Customer Services Intercity, Iarnrod Eireann, Connolly Station, Dublin 1, If that fails Mr Steve Murphy, Manager South and West, Iarnrod Eireann, Heuston Station, Dublin 8 Read this, refunds can be had http://www.platform11.org/passenger_...hp#their_fault The key here is specifics be clear that it was the 7:15 Port Laois Heuston on 3-3-2006. The heating in coach xxxx was broke. IE are notorious for avoiding the truth and side-stepping the issue. Sadly they tend not to write back when they have to put there hands up The letter will always be accompained by a useless self publicising last paragraph claiming how great IE are investing in the network, no shortage of cash its a shortage of will in IE to actually make changes for the better This morning was the coldest on record in 10 years and I'm told the air-conditioning systems on certain coaches can't hack it below -5C, if they where better looked after they would Health regulations is an interesting point but heating is not a critical element of the system Over the last few months Platform 11 has embarked on a process of assisting the setup of local rail users groups such as Kildare and Newbridge. Further groups on the Kildare line at the Dublin end are also about to emerge as well. Port Laois is the missing element currently Iarnrod Eireann have gone all strange making extreme attempts to be friendly as they fear a backlash if the groups get well organised. Needless to say all involved saw this for what it was ass coverage. Orgainisation is the key to getting a result http://www.platform11.org/local_groups/ |
Thanks MArk,
I'll take your comment on board. |
Guess which platform???????????
Sat eving, Connolly station, around 1815-20. The train to Drougheda is diue into platform 7, acording to the dot matrix'y thingy. Everyone standing there... announcement on the pa "Next train arriving is the (whatever time) to Drougheda, now arriving on platform 6" everyone moves over to six.
The train pulls into seven. Everyone rushes back. Good stuff!! :D |
this is interesting...
nothing since Saturday??? Things must be improving!! |
not been doing much traveling
Well Tuesday 7th 8:50 Howth Bray Next Station <silence> for Sydney Parade, Salthill, Dun Loaghaire and Glasthule Destination blinds on the DART fleet have been more or less fixed |
An off thing I've noticed on some Northern line trains. When travelling southbound between Gormanston and Balbriggan, a lonely "6" scrolls across the display, followed by a few foreign language characters. This only seems to happen on some trains that stop in Gormanston.

A few LUAS announcements seem to have been re-recorded on Line B / Green:
I really wish they would do something about the quality on the announements in general - the person who records them does not have a clear voice and the irish pronounciations are very dodgy. |
I'm not sure what you find wrong with the announcements on the Luas, the robo-chick announcements to me always seem very clear and unambiguous.
And as for the Gaeilge pronunciations, honestly, who cares? |
And as for the Gaeilge pronunciations, honestly, who cares?[/quote]
Oh God no Sean, dont say that!!! I've seen fatwahs launched on that issue before!!! |
On St. Patricks day there were announcements for "the next station is Tara st" as we passed throught the closed station and stopped in Pearse....
Imagine the nearest station to the city centre closed on a day that there'd be peoiple trying to get into and out of the city centre...... |
