When do these changes go active ?

ThomasJ 14-11-2007 15:01

so the sligo service changes back from "railcar" to "intercity" on the 21st january 2008 and includes a 7.05 and 9.05 service. and the 6.00 gorey-sligo becomes the 6.00 gorey-connolly

also the 16.00 will be a daily service giving 16:00, 17:05, 19:05

KSW 14-11-2007 15:02

December 10th

ThomasJ 14-11-2007 15:23

looks like from the january timetable the sligo early bird is back and one of the morning longford-pearse services are gone?

also looks like the afternoon longford-bray is also gone in the january timetbable but new 16:04 maynooth-bray (all stops to connolly)

comcor 14-11-2007 15:37

These are the changes down in Cork.

Cork-Cobh: One extra train a day. Where there are now trains at 18:30, 20:00, 21:30, the new timetable has 18:30, 19:30, 20:30, 21:30

Cork-Mallow: One train less a day. There's an extra departure at 05:45, but the 07:15 and 22:30 are gone. The loss of the 22:30 means 21:55 is the last train.

Cobh-Mallow: The number of through trains with no connection drops from six to five a day

Cork-Tralee: The number of through trains with no connection drops from three to two a day. The total number of trains when connections are included remains at nine.

The January timetable is that not the Dec10th that I've mentioned!

ThomasJ 14-11-2007 15:49

it is, the january timetable effective on the sligo line from the 21st

Mark Gleeson 14-11-2007 15:55

The 2008 timetable covers

December 9th 2007 till September 2nd 2008

With effect from January 20th 2008 the Sligo line timetable is changed considerably to account for full operation by 22k railcars with 5-12 minute reduction in journey times

September 2nd probably will have changes due to the resignaling on the Rosslare line and the 22k's going on there as well. Heuston side will have changes as more 22k's enter service, the depot in Portlaoise will be just about open, the speed limit in Portarlington will change from 25mph to 80mph, Nenagh commuter services

KSW 14-11-2007 17:17

Mark September is that for the 22k trains, Is it not Easter(April)

They will be there way before September but you can't change timetable until they are all in place, signaling also needs time to be done and for the month or so after that there will be speed limits around stations

Sligo is getting 5-12 minutes off the times as a result of the 22k's in January

KSW 14-11-2007 17:37

Mark, If you know - Why is the signalling taking so long?

anto 14-11-2007 17:55

Signaling will be April ish, add 2 months to get rid of the temporary speed limits it creates. Then there is the question of the new station in Rosslare

If you change something on the Rosslare line it can effect services as far away as Limerick now, so its much easier to change in one go country wide rather than piecemeal

Its fairly typical that Irish Rail make a mess of the timetable online, frequently stuff goes missing

The 11:30 ex Heuston runs as current and gets in 6 minutes earlier, its rostered to go back that afternoon at 3 so is most likely still there

16:25 will have first sometime in 2008, more importantly it will become a Mk3 operated service then a 22k operated service which may or may have first, probably won't

paddyb180285 14-11-2007 18:03

Mark, I would like to know your opinion on this matter. Dalkey's timetable will have been the same for two years if the 2008 timetable has indeed been set in stone until next September. Last year, the 15:36 Dalkey service to Maynooth stopped serving Dalkey, Shankill, Killiney and Glenageary despite the fact that loads of people got on at these stations. Now they have paired it down even further to go none stop between Blackrock and Landsdown road. Currently there are DART services which go none stop between Bray and Dun Laoghaire from Greystones and others which begin their journey at Dun Laoghaire. This leaves an uneven amount of services between the following stretches:
Dun Laoghaire - Connolly(A lot of services particularly in Blackrock*, Sydney Parade and Dun Laoghaire* itself.)
Bray - Dun Laoghaire(Noticeably fewer services)

The two stations marked with an * have gained an extra service.Fair enough, if the two are major bus interchages. However, Dalkey in particular being a small town in itself is at the moment poorly serviced by both bus and train.

QED, its a village btw and at all times the 15 minutes interval is maintained

Railcars are very slow compared to a DART, so a DART can do Bray, Shankill, Killiney and stop in Dalkey in 60 seconds more than a railcar doing Bray Dalkey non stop

The timetable is designed to ensure trains get into town on time

The Bray-Maynooth/Drogheda trains exist only since they ran out of space in Pearse

paddyb180285 14-11-2007 18:31

Mark, what about the railcars that are tightly squeezed between two DART services.I often see them cruising along. Most of these are the Bray express Commuter Branded trains. The point I am trying to make is that at that pace they can afford an extra stop or two. With a dart two or three minutes ahead as it has been in a lot of cases, the Commuter can't pick up speed. Therefore, SOME of them could be used to fill in gaps in one or more timetables to allow the train ahead to get further afield so that after it services Dun Laoghaire it can pick up speed.I would see it as making the most of what there is to improve the frequency as much as possible.

Mark Gleeson 14-11-2007 19:02

If they stop the DART behind gets it, I've seen Railcar-DART-Railcar-DART leave Bray in less than 10 minutes, its a very careful balance to get everything into the city particularly at the start of the rush hour

The timetable of all services through Connolly is a disaster there is no sense in most of the timetabling, there are way too many railcars starting in Bray which is leading to serious problems. Irish Rail could do heaps better and in fact offer a better service with quicker more reliable journeys if they bothered

Thomas Ralph 14-11-2007 20:21

Yes, I've wondered why there are so many railcars sent out to Bray in the morning and back. Doesn't seem to make much sense.
