It's quite obvious why they don't do that. It's because the trains never run on time.

Also the 0751 for one station is the 0746 for the previous one.

The Cork train originally had something like this and it was confusing. I pointed it out on the first day and it was fixed quite quickly

Do you not think there should be something like a bell before the onboard announcements on the commuter trains aslike the intercity. small but something simple instead of a voice coming from no where

I'd not say no to a bell before announcements on trains.

Nothing worse than

"laytownnextstop" (said quickly) then the automatic doors open.

The Enterprise system is so different. I like the progress map on boatd the Enterprise where there's a map of ireland and a LED for each station, and when you pass Malahide for example, the LED turns green. Useful to have though not essential.

Next Station Gorey, Guaire. I have to agree if there was a bell of some sort before the announcement it would be noticable for the customer to know when the announcements are about to come on. Even for Commuter trains there should be something inthe way of "Bell, Attention please, The next station is Gorey, Guaire" Simple and to the point!! But does this fall into the trap of the short announcement rule on some other thread. I like the Enterprise map so you know where you are. The flashing announcement on the PA screen arriving into a station is clever, The time in the corner. Its the simple things that count!!

The new Cork (CAF Intercity) have a set up like this. There's an map of the Cork-Dublin lines (and the other near by lines). The route's marked out in LEDs that change colour as the train progresses.

Its far from accurate though

MrX 14-03-2008 21:28

I have to say that I've found it pretty good, I haven't seen it displaying wrong information in any trip i've been on recently.

In general the Cork-Dublin announcements and passenger info is pretty good. It's certainly a vast improvement on any previous Irish rail service.

Mark Gleeson 14-03-2008 21:43

The map is frequently 10-15 miles out of sync with the real world

The system is normally reliable, thats not to say it doesn't do strange things
