After nearly 4 years of putting up with the current standard of Dublin public transport (ok the buses aren't that bad), I have decided to return home to Sydney.

I loved every minute of my time in Dublin, but the one thing that lets this city (country) down is the public transport system and the way IE treat their customers. I hope you guys continue to fight for its improvement.

When a plane ticket costs less than getting a train to the same place, something is clearly wrong! (dublin to kerry - €120 train, €67 plane)

For now I'll be enjoying getting a train to work in Sydney that comes every 5 minutes and not having to plan my nights out around a train that comes every hour.

Good luck with your fight and I hope to return to Dublin one day and see an improvement in the rail/metro network!

Thanks guys
Dan

hey daniel ,

why am i not suprised that you are doing this. Im just suprised that you took that long !

If i had the chance i would be heading there too but i cant sadly. Everything in this country is messed up the price of goods the whole transport network no night services etc.

Fingers crossed but i wouldnt hold my breath.

At least you are going home to a bit of proper sunshine.

Safe journey home and dont forget to keep in touch boasting of the great weather and great transport etc !

Don't know what you booked going to Kerry, but it is very possible to book a return trip to Kerry for €40, as I did earlier in the year. There are decent deals on IR if you want them.

Admittedly, the frequency and network is a problem, but with the economic climate, and time it takes for an irish builder, to build a new train line, it will be 20 years before we see any major rail improvements on our network.

Australia has it's attractions, but then again, we don't have Bush Fires to put up with every summer here. ;)

I'll see your €40 and raise you €20 for that trip now. See here (http://www.railusers.ie/forum/showthread.php?t=9838)
