PASSENGER numbers on Dublin's Luas have fallen by almost 2.5 million so far this year, writes Paul Melia.
Wonder how IE's numbers are looking this year?

Doesn't surprise me that passenger numbers are down, as passengers won't take being treated like crap these days. The pedestrian access at the Red Cow is now a disgrace, and passengers are left sitting at stops for up to 20 minutes at nighttime, when it would be quicker to get a taxi and be home, by the time the Luas turns up. Getting a taxi is as easy as getting a takeaway now.
The downturn in the economy has also contributed, as with less people working, less people have reason to use it.
The opening in Dec/Jan of the extension to The Point should go some way to increasing the pax numbers for 2010 and then in 2010 also (summer perhaps?) the B1 line opens.
Citywest A1 shouldnt take as long as 2011, not many major structures. They started late though.
Not surprising given the unemployment figures.
