ALL ABOARD FOR THE VOLVO OCEAN RACE!
Iarnród Éireann Announces Additional Services and Special Fares for the Volvo Ocean Race stop over in Galway City.
As Galway City prepares for an influx of visitors to enjoy the spectacle of the Volvo Ocean Race and the festivity surrounding the event, Iarnród Éireann has announced that it will increase its services to and from Galway for the duration of the festival from the 23rd of May to the 6th of June.
An additional Friday service will operate from Heuston Station on 22nd and 29th May and 5th June at 13.55hrs arriving at Galway at 16.20hrs. Capacity on other services to Galway will be increased over the period of the Galway stopover.
Iarnród Éireann also plans to supplement its services between Athlone and Galway with late evening services returning to Athenry, Attymon, Woodlawn, Ballinasloe and Athlone.
On top of the additional services a special €10 adult day return or €5 child day return fare will be available to Galway from Athlone, Ballinasloe, Woodlawn, Attymon and Athenry booking offices only for the duration of the stopover.
These services will allow visitors from the Midlands and the eastern part of Co. Galway to attend many of the displays, events and concerts and return home after the event. This option should prove to be very popular and allow visitors to avoid any traffic delays by parking at one of the above stations.
