Translink isn't mentioned here much, but for anyone heading north of Ballymena between March and June 2009 they need to be aware of this.

Ongoing work to improve the railway line on the Londonderry line is on schedule. NI Railways is preparing to enter the next phase of the major engineering project on the Derry line between Ballymena and Coleraine.
A period of complete closure between Ballymena and Coleraine is planned from 30th March to 28th June 2009.
Bus substitution services will serve:
Ballymena – Cullybackey and
Ballymena – Ballymoney – Coleraine
We will keep all those affected fully informed on project developments and details of revised timetables will be available from main rail stations and this website.
Timetable information >> (Adobe PDF Document 245kb) (http://www.translink.co.uk/resources2007/pdfs/Lderry%20line%20closure%20ttable%20info2%20160209. pdf)
Aim of the upgrade work
This phase will include a five mile track relay between Ballymena (Broughdone) and Ballymoney. An estimated 1,250 tonnes of new rail will be used to complete the project. Already more than 1,200 tonnes of ballast have been dropped along the track and temporary new engineering facilities have been built in Coleraine in order to service trains. These facilities will mean trains can be stabled in Coleraine in order to provide passengers with a full rail service between Coleraine and Londonderry / Portrush during the closure period.
The next phase will see around 4,000 welds to remove joints in existing rails, 5,000 metres of new drains, adjusting track lines and levels, stressing the rail to prevent buckling under severe hot or cold temperatures and bridge maintenance and replacement work.
Although some work will need to be carried out at night, every effort will be made to keep noise to a minimum and we would ask for the continued support of the public as we continue to upgrade the local railway line.
NI Railways also asks the public to keep vigilant and use extra caution when crossing any of the railway crossings. Always follow the appropriate warning signs and instructions and stay safe. Engineering trains will be operating during this time.
Benefits of the work
Improved journey times
Better quality of ride
Speed restrictions removed resulting in line speed of 70mph
Maintain high safety standards
Improved drainage
We would like to thank you for your continued support as we improve local services and ask for your help in communicating these developments to our passengers and wider public.
