Iarnród Éireann is investigating why one of its trains crashed through a level crossing in south Co Wexford this morning.

The incident happened at the village of Bridgetown and involved a ballast train.

The only person on the train was the driver and he was not injured. No other vehicles were involved.

The driver managed to get the train back through the crossing so there was no disruption to traffic.

That of course is on the Waterford Rosslare line

The signaling at the level crossings wouldn't be the best down there.

What does it mean "crashed through"?

I imagine it's a manual gate crossing which was not opened and the train ran into it.

Could've been the gatekeepers fault. Don't always assume its the signalling

If the gate is across the railway the signals are against the train

This is a totally safe situation

If you don't see the signal or make an assumption the gates will be closed before you actually get to them, then you have an incident
