A train heading from Galway to Dublin has been evacuated after smoke was spotted coming from beneath one of the carriages.

The incident happened as the train was leaving Tullamore station shortly before 9.30am.

Iarnrod Eireann officials say they are investigating a possible fault with the breaks and fuel line, but say there was no danger to passengers on the train.

Curiously there are is no Galway Dublin service due anywhere near Tullamore at 9:30am

7:10am Dublin Galway is a Mk3 passes at 8:15
9:15am Galway Dublin is a Mk3 passes at 10:43

Mk3 coach can generate heaps of smoke if the brakes jam

The morning Wesport Dublin and Dublin Westport pass each other in Tullamore at 9:24

The 08:20 Dublin to Westport had to wait at Geashill for an hour at 9:15 or so because there were 2 22Ks holding thing up in Tullamore. The westbound train was still in Tullamore at 10:29 although the eastbound one had managed to move.
