Usual PR tripe
Folks in Clondalkin already had a station, admittedly a horrible one. It already is served by 25 trains a day
No mention of real customer service facts, such as the station being staffed, having full accessibility, electronic information displays and so on

Monday, 13 October 2008 17:24
A new railway station on the Kildare commuter line was officially opened by the by Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey, in Clondalkin in west Dublin this morning.
The Clondalkin Fonthill railway station replaces the previous Clondalkin station, which closed last night.
The new station offers extra facilities, particularly improved accessibility for wheelchairs and blind and deaf customers.
It also has a 200 space park-and-ride facility for cars.
It is part of the €350m Kildare Route Project.
On completion of the project in 2010, there will be increased services for all stations along the route.
Is the name Clondalkin Fonthill a temp name? Why call it that? Its been on the T21 map as Clondalkin since the start.
RPA call it Clondalkin because they have a planned MW stop called Fonthill.
Why do their idiots not just talk FFS.

Actually, RPA call it "Fonthill". http://www.rpa.ie/cms/download.asp?id=569
Fonthill would be a bad name as Fonthill House is north of the N4 at Liffey Valley and Fonthill Road is 5km long from the N4 to N7 at Newlands Cross.
The Clondalkin bit retains the Clondalkin heritage while Fonthill specifies it isn't the old Clondalkin, while telling you what road its on.
Stops on the KRP are quite widely spaced, so there is the potential for in between stations, we might have Clondalkin Cloverhill in 20 years time.

.
Apologies, I meant to say Fonthill because of the interchange I was referring to.

Annoucement from the driver on the 6:30am service from Portlaoise this morning stating it will be stopping at Clondalkin\Fonthill from now on. It was always in the automatic annoucement that train served the station.

Platform length restriction at the old Clondalkin, limited it to a 4 coach commuter or 3 car intercity. It can now take 8/6
Well as it stands there is a 20:35hrs service that stops at Cherry Orchard/Parkwest and Clondalkin and the next service is at 23:00hrs.
Given that there is a 21:45hrs service ex Heuston that didn't stop there because of the train type and length and platform length and given that the platform issue at Cherry Orchard/Parkwest and Clondalkin has been sorted whats stopping the 21:45hrs ex Heuston from stopping at those stations now?

The signs on the platforms say "Clondalkin / Fonthill".

So overall, a nice clean bright appearance, it clear how to get to where you want to be, some minor issues to be sorted out, I'm not enthusiastic about the stairs.
8/10.
Cheers for the pics. I must get down to Clongriffin and do the same.

back to my map obsession
i was trying to locate this and got confused - i found reference to clondalkin station being in two different places. given that there are a few stations on the move, would it be an idea to rustle up a google map showing where thigns are now
so here it is
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&ll=53.341226,-6.432667&spn=0.117864,0.30899&z=12&msid=111266909248308350592.00045c82b062cf62dd38f
can anyone who know reply with corrections? maybe we can add a page on the website "where's my station?"

kishogue added - i also found this
http://www.irishrail.ie/projects/pdf/Proposed_Main_works.pdf
which is probably what i was looking for in the first place but the google map would be more useful for people trying to plan a commute
Adamstown is further west, you can see it here in birdseye:

Like they are currently doing with Howth Junction / Donaghmede, Clondalkin / Fonthill might be a temporary name with Fonthill the eventual name?
Considering the village of Clondalkin is south of the train station and is set to have its own Metro West stop down the line I would have assumed that calling the rail station 'Fonthill' was the most logical choice for IE.

I think Adamstown is ever so slightly further west - http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCP&cp=swpf90gftv39&style=b&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=29505764&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&encType=1
Kishoge NOT Kishogue.
The IÉ system still has "Cherry Orchard and Park West" - this has changed. Also note the area is Parkwest - one word.
Add "Station" after each item and "Closed" where appropriate.
There is pedestrain and cyclist access to Clondalkin Fonthill here: http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCP&cp=swnz8ggfzz85&style=b&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=29504111&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&encType=1
Clondalkin Fonthill, Clondalkin / Fonthill, Clondalkin-Fonthill, Clondalkin, Fonthill name is up in the air.

The platform signs say "Clondalkin / Fonthill" which one would expect to be halfway between the towns of Clondalkin and Fonthill.
Irish Rail are, I understand, tempted to just call it "Clondalkin" - but this risks not alerting people to the new location.
The RPA plan to have a Metro West stop nearer Clondalkin village called "Clondalkin" and propose to call Clondalkin Fonthill the misnomer of "Fonthill" (Fonthill House is 3km away).
I would be happy with "Clondalkin Fonthill" or "Clondalkin - Fonthill".
Neilstown perhaps?
Where is Fonthill House Victor?
jaysus, u couldn't call d place Neillstown:eek: , dat used to be some place in the late 80s early 90s, I don't know what d place is like now but d name 'd put me off ever going near d station.

whats in the second station building?
When I was there, it looked awfully like a complete second station building.
Metro West will have a stop immediately north of the second building.
Of course, having a second exit would make much more seense at Kishoge, where crossing the 6-lane dual carriageway will be a problem. The station building will be between the two bridges (old bridge demolished).

Begs the question, why two buildings..

The likely answer: http://eiretrains.com/Photo_Gallery/C/Clondalkin%20&%20Fonthill/slides/Clondalkin%20and%20Fonthill%20Station%20%2813%29.h tmlThere are two booking offices at this station, one for the main and commuter platforms, which are located on either side of the road overbridge.
