View Full Version : 16.00 Connolly to Sligo
Last 2 days this train has been a 3 carriage instead of the usual 6 set.
Only one or 2 spare seats after Drumcondra and very tight with people and bags.
Tea trolley doesn't help either with it been very tight.
Not sure what it is like after Maynooth but usually a good crowd get on so i spare seats are few and far between.

IE are bloody fools thinking 3 carriages is enough for dublin-sligo. Will they ever learn

They broke a train last week, 2 in fact.
16:00 didn't exist until January, previously was Fridays only
If there is even 1 empty seat then the 3 car train is sufficient. There is no point wasting fuel thats a reality we will have to accept and indeed support to ensure fares are kept down. Good number get out in Maynooth normally so it should be ok.
If they try to run it as 3 cars on Friday then there is a real problem, since even a 6 car can struggle there
The alternative is to shorten the 17:05 or 19:05 which would leave at least a hundred standing on each which isn't acceptable
another one you might be able to answer Mark
Sometime the Sligo train is delayed leaving and can result in been stuck behind the 16.05 Maynooth train all the way.
Who decides on letting the Maynooth train go ahead of the Sligo train and is there a time set on it.
example if the Sligo train is going to be delayed by 10 minutes so due to leave at 16.10 should the Maynooth train be held so the Sligo train can have a clear run to Maynooth or should the Maynooth train be allowed to go ahead and delay the Sligo train by 20 minutes into Maynooth and stop on other platform.

Problem is if the Maynooth train is waiting on the Sligo train to move other commuter trains are waiting on the Maynooth train to move to get into the platforms 6/7 in Connolly.
Is it right to delay passengers on the commuter service because the sligo train cant keep on time bear in mind there is 20 minute gaps on the maynooth line before a sligo train departs in order to give the train a clear run!

This happens to the 19:05 service as well. Irish Rail seem fixated on not using platform 1 in Connolly for departures so the train has to be moved over to platform 4. Its the usual laziness
If standing becomes a problem let us know, if there is an odd empty seat around it looks like the train is the right length, that said the book says 6 coaches

They usually move the Maynooth train out and park on the side around near the bridge.
The 4.00 train shouldn't never be delayed as the train seems to be parked around the side of connolly for a while (open to correction) thus makes you feel like it is down to the driving finishing off his cup of tea before he brings the train around.
