All, just got this memo from the Naas Rail User Group:

"I received a letter from Irish Rail this morning announcing their new season ticket prices.

The prices have increased substantially, this is probably equally due to wage and fuel inflation topped by the recent large capital investment in new trains.

For instance, the annual Sallins to City Centre ticket was €1,250, now it is €1,435. This is an increase of 14.8%."

Following discussions with the DoT all these fares are unregulated. Anything over 6% is excessive. All capital investment is underwritten by the state all those new trains cost Irish Rail nothing

Point to note all annual tickets are the same price for the same distance it doesn't matter which route you are travelling

We haven't got the full picture so its hard to see what is going on

I'm a bit confused here

Sallins Heuston Jan 08 price was €1,120
Add €200 for the Luas/90
Gives €1320

The Jan 07 price would have been €1250

If the fare from Nov 08 is €1435

Its €115 more or 8.7% increase since Jan 08
its €185 more or 14.8% increased since Jan 07

In contrast fares within Dublin will have increased by over 20%

The fares within Dublin are actually reasonable enough, fares beyond it are not. So instead of resolving the issue Irish Rail are simply going to rip off those within Dublin instead of actually sorting the problem out. So everyone is now being ripped off!

It will really annoy me if they choose to cut services as well as increasing ticket prices to accomidate fuel price rises. In my mind its one or the other!
