And worth noting that those return fares are day returns Mon-Thur, five day return on Fri, and weekend return on Sat-Sun.

Has the fare for Cork to Cobh changed since this thread was started? If so does anyone know the new fare? I tried irishrail.ie but it doesn't give fares for local services.

Also are fares in Ireland the same all day?

Fares have gone up by about 10%, but actually getting a list is impossible, even with a list it doesn't include the matrix so you know the fares but not the journeys they apply to

Fares generally are the same all day, except where special local discounts apply typically after 9:30am, returns only and not on Friday or Sunday, they don't exist on the Cork Cobh

I went to buy my weekly commuter ticket for Cork-Little Island (first time commuter) which cost €28.50.

The IR website (http://http://www.irishrail.ie/index.jsp?p=118&n=199) says it is €19.00, so the website needs updating.

I take 5 return trips per week, Monday to Friday.
Would it be cheaper to but each return ticket daily?

28.50 is the weekly Cork Cobh line fare as in all trains/stations

19.00 is the 7 day Little Island to Cork fare

What exactly is printed on the ticket?

The teller gave me a ticket for Cobh by mistake. Another teller exchanged it for me today, with the change, that was nice of him. Sorry about the confusion!

Irish Rail has been known to sell the same ticket for a different price depending on who staffing the office at the time.

Even at head office management level confusion abounds for certain routes
