The new 16:40 Connolly-Gorey service is due to start on Tuesday 6th May. Big question will this operate with all the current drivers issues? On asking at Connolly Info this evening I was told it would indeed operate however the local train staff think it is doubtful.
Mark have you heard anything about this new service operating as planned or are looking at another journey crammed into the evening Enniscorthy service?

Thank you Mark. One of my fellow commuters rang Abbey Street yesterday inquiring about the new service only to be told that there was no new services planned for Gorey untill December.

There is a strong chance the 16:40 is part of the existing roster since it was pencilled in for the 2007 timetable as well, that is to say there is a link in the roster which includes driving the 16:40 out and back which already is filled, as in it doesn't require any extra drivers
We don't know, what we do know is it won't run on Monday 5th despite what the Irish Rail website says
754

I would be literally schuffed if the Gorey service got the new train.

There is a chance but now people are saying well im not going to the station only to find the service not operating and then waiting for the 17:25......
According to the timetable the 17:25 (41 minutes) is actually faster than the 16:40 (42 minutes) at getting to bray.... by 1 minute
Although the 16:40 (1 hour 53 mins) is faster than the 17:25 (1 hr 54 mins) at getting to gorey by 1 minute.
The fastest train of the peak hour to gorey is still the 18:37 with 1 hour 47 minutes
Just confirmation of what has been said all along

Yeah saw those models, you could tell they hadn't endured nearly 2 hours on a packed commuter train ;)

I was in Abbey Street shop one day changing my ticket. Information is provided by a surly lady reading directly out of the IE timetable book. Not exactly a good example of a modern information system. It probably wasn't in the book and the timetables change each December. It'll be next December before it's in the new book and before it exists in her mind.
IE staff, if you're reading. You need to get your act together with the information you provide. Reading from a book which can be out of date as soon as there is a service change, is a very poor show.

16:40 is clearly shown in the current (Dec 2007) edition
There is a mail in this mornings metro in which a commuter asks what is the point in irish rail sending a dart out two minutes before the 16:40 connolly gorey leaving them stuck behind all the way.
I agree i would have thought they would have at least send it out behind the dun laoghaire bound dart

You ain't going to find a gap to give it as fast run
Its 1 minute quicker to Gorey than the 17:25

I was talking to some of my fellow commuters about that artical in the metro and they are in favour of that Dart as it is the one they catch to Bray to connect with the service. If it was earlier they would not make the new service.

ok then the relevant question is why doesn't this service stop at GCD, Lansdowne and DunLaoghaire like the 1725. It certainly has time to do so (irishrail.com says it takes 42 mins to Bray, 1 minute slower than the 1725)

cos it's an intercity? they are often slower than suburban services....
check out Mallow to Cork times and the type of services
Its not an intercity its a commuter. The only reason it is getting an intercity to run a commuter service is because of the resources.

Time advantage to passengers by making the extra stop 2 minutes
Downside is the train fills up with punters making the hop from Lansdowne to Dun Laoghaire
The 22k is no designed for frequent station stops with high passenger turnover

no sign of them using a 22k yet and the train has not been particularly busy the times I've used it, but I see your point.
I'd imagine by the time of the next timetable they'll be rostering a commuter train on this run and might add extra stops (if they ever get round to putting a 22k on it in the first place). Its a handy service for me, even if it is frustratingly slow ("Frustratingly slow" should be the motto of the Rosslare line...)

Its meant to be a 22k but it appears not all drivers on the Rosslare route are trained yet
Rosslare line is always going to be slow due to the twisty and hilly nature, that said journey times are significantly down compared to the 1970's, the target time Dublin Rosslare was 2:35, current best is 2:47, 12 minutes which makes one of the closest to matching the promise, it will be less than 2:45 next year

It was 2:35 ? I cant see why this upcoming timetable cant do 2:30 excatly with new trains new signalling whats the problem?

the target time Dublin Rosslare was 2:35
Ontrack 2000 program gave that as the post investment time
