View Full Version : DART moving with doors open!
I was on a Tokyu dart with air conditioning this evening around 6:30pm leaving Pearse in the last 'train' making up the set.
The train started to move while the doors in our coach were still open. It went maybe 6 or 7 feet. Then the doors buzzers sounded again and it closed.
Didn't think that was possible!

It shouldn't be possible
Now the Tokyu coaches are ordered against GM/RT2473 (or its immediate predecessor) spec where section B7 tells us it is not possible to apply traction power if a door is open, doesn't say anything about the brakes.
Bet it rolled towards Grand Canal Dock
If you have the coach number time to tell the RSC as the black box will have it all recorded as will the CCTV which if the door was open does capture part of the platform edge. If it was southbound at 18:29 it was train id E256 18:00 Howth Bray.
I have experienced slight movements but nothing of the order of 7 feet
Mark, I think it was 8527.
Unfortunately, I was on the phone at the time and had meant to just tap it into my txt outbox or something.
If I notice it again, I will!

26 25 28 27 is the set in question, 8527 is at the Howth end second last coach
It shouldn't happen, driver most likely pressed the controller down while in netural, that will release the brakes if the parking brake is not on
Pearse is on a fairly serious hill and a train will roll away quite easily
It was at the Howth end alright, second last coach would be correct.
There should be CCTV footage of it moving, never mind the black box!
It moved enough to look like it was taking off towards the next station. Then stopped (hard) and the door beepers all went off. Doors all opened and re-closed.
Also, when I got out, I noticed the doors on the first half of the train seemed to close first, then the doors on the second half. Are they actually controlled seperately ?!

Doors are all on the same circuit
This sounds like the doors latched correctly on the front 4 coaches, this would permit the parking brake to release on the front 4 coaches and the rear 4 not closed
Report it, seriously IE have a very lazy attitude
So the back 4 coaches would have been dragged along with the parking brakes on ?
Rang the DART section of IE anyway. So, they are now aware of it.
RPA told too.
It's worth checking out though, I wouldn't like to see someone step out / step in just as it moved. You could be injured quite badly.
If it's a technical problem, it needs resolving!

RPA told too. RSC? www.rsc.ie
Sorry that was a typo. I spoke with the RSC, not the RPA!
Too many acronyms!

Travelled on the train in question this afternoon and there was a noticeable lurch as it pulled away from a station as if the brakes where not releasing at the same time through the train

I was on the set in question again on Friday and the train did roll forward at 3 stations while the doors where closing on the front coach, it didn't move much but enough to be a concern
It shouldn't do that
I've been on DARTs a couple of times over the last few months where the doors have opened while the train was still moving slightly.

Thats allowed for in the rule books once the train is below 5mph, you hear a little click above the door normally
The design of the door control buttons on the 29k, Mk4 and refurbished DART are such that they will only work after they have been enabled, other coaches you can hold them down before they are enabled and then the door opens instantly when the driver releases the doors
