Maybe my eyes deceived me, but were the information displays in Connolly saying that a Saturday service would operate on Wednesday/Thursday/Friday this week?

I've checked online, and neither the online timetable or the special Christmas notice mention it. Did I misread it?

What's the logic behind no DARTs on Stephen's Day and a reduced service Wed - Fri, when Dublin Bus provides a Sunday service on Stephen's Day and a full service all week?

There are plenty of companies that remain open during Christmas, public transport should be there to serve them.

Now, I'm going to be contrary here, but I dont think they should work christmas day in ireland, I dont believe there is a demand.

Fine, i know, maybe a dozen posters here and on boards will disagree with me so I'll ask straight up:

Next Monday, what do you want to do but you cant because there are no trains or buses?

I agree totally but Wednesday to Friday are fair game.

I agree about Christmas Day, but there should be services on the 26th. Even Luas is running.

27/28/29, I know there will be a lot of people working, if they are running a Saturday service, they should at least start running at the times they would on a normal weekday. It's a full working day, and a lot of people still need to be in bright and early!

i know citylink ran buses on xmas day a few years ago but its unclear from their website if they still do. there are an increasing number of people whose lives do not follow the pattern of the majority. ironically, in many ways public transport workers themselves are already in this category


not exactly on topic but for an idea of satisfying a demand that people said didn't exist, look at tthis line from the citylink website:
Our 0115 and 0215 departures from Galway to Dublin must be booked in advance. There is extremely high demand for these services, so to avoid disappointment please book as early as you can.

City buses in Dublin used to run but don't anymore owing to no demand, There are some lovely CCTV snaps of Dublin last Christmas day, not a car or human to be seen anywhere

Book early as demand is high is often used to encourage people, it must be good if demand is high

I can't understand a need to do long distance on Christmas day, I could see a need to run a trial on some of the busier routes in Dublin

I used to live on the quays, beside Tara St. O'Connell bridge and the quays used to be jammed Christmas morning. Also had a two hour wait for a taxi in the evening last year from a city centre hotel back home, because there were fewer taxis, but a lot of people looking to travel. Wasn't that deserted. This year I'm possibly facing over an hour's walk to visit my Dad, because I'm
not sure of getting a taxi when I need one. There's definitely some demand. Even for a couple of hourly buses in the morning, and a few in the evening when people are travelling home form visiting relatives/friends.

But I wasn't talking about Christmas day. It's ridiculous that there's no service Tuesday, and only a Saturday service Wed - Fri. Most people I know are either working, or taking annual leave while other people are covering in their office. DB recognise that fact, those in the ivory tower at IE don't.

I do think nothing on Stephen's Day is a bit poor, lots of people have to get back from the country if they spent Xmas with their family and have to work on the Wednesday.

26th is a day for visiting relatives too, and with no car (and anywhere with no alternative bus services) you're stuck at home the two days.
