Hi

The missus received a fine on 4th Sept for not having her weekly ticket with her (she left it at home). The guy she spoke to in Pearse station was good humoured about the whole thing. He issued her with a fine, but he told her to lodge an appeal on the grounds that she did have a valid ticket (just not on her at the moment in time), and she was not trying to defraud the company. He said he would expect her to be successful on appeal.

We promptly lodged an appeal - however, she has 21 days to pay the fine and we've hear nothing back about the appeal yet.

How long do appeals generally take to be considered?

If the appeal response comes back more than 21 days after the fine has been issued, would she be taken to court for non-payment of the fine?

i.e. would it be better to just pay the damned thing while the appeal is pending, to avoid the hassle of being dragged into court?

In general only monthly and annual ticket holders are allowed to submit their ticket to get a fine struck out, as these tickets are tied to an ID card so cannot be used by someone else

A bit unclear as to the situation with a weekly ticket, if the ticket has the ID card number printed on it and that matches the ID card (it goes without saying the date/time of issue is hidden in the tickets number) then Irish Rail have no case.

Best solution in these cases was always to visit the office (in Pearse) and to present the ticket in person and get the case dealt with there.
