The Evening Herald is reporting today that the body of a young man was found in a train toilet in Connolly station.

Cleaners made the discovery at 11.40 last Monday on a commuter train that was due to depart for Longford at 11.53. It is thought that the body had being lying there for a number of hours. Gardai are examining the CCTV footage from the train in an attempt to piece together the chain of events and establish a time as to when the man entered the toilet.

It is believed that the man was in his 20s and died as a result of a drug overdose.

The train was there for a few hours and the cleaners inspect it ten minutes before departure?

More to the point the driver or station staff should have confirmed it empty after arrival, imagine if it was sent out of service somewhere

Top quailty CCTV is provided so a significant amount of evidence is capatured which will give away the boarding time and location

Of course the deceased may have boarded the train while it was lying idle in Connolly

As I read the article I thought at first it referred to the public toilets in the station itself which are horrid to say the least. On a train however is more shocking.

Quite possibly, I'm sure IE know how popular public toilets of any kind are with addicts. I know the toilets up at Heuston platform 6/7/8 have the blue lighting, which apparently makes it difficult/impossible to inject.

Maybe that should be implemented everywhere? The thought of being stuck on a train with someone who's just shot up is fairly unsettling.

A guy smoking crack at Tara St. got on my train once. There was a very tense atmosphere on that train.
