Irish Rail has said it will fully investigate an incident at a DART station in which a Dublin woman lost her leg.

It is understood the 30-year-old fell into a gap between the platform and a train at Tara Street, and needed to have her leg amputated below the knee.

The woman was part of a group that had left one of the carriages.

Barry Kenny from Irish Rail said it is a tragic accident and the company's thoughts are with her.

Nasty accident by the sounds of it. The northbound platform at Tara Street has always struck me as being quite dodgy due to the curve. It can also get extremely busy and isn't especially wide.

The platform that nearly all trains use in Mullingar is the same although it isn't anywhere near as busy.

Irish Times http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2013/0219/breaking19.html article seems to rule out a fall while actually alighting the train itself which rules out the gap.

Stay behind the yellow line.

Will never forget the day this happened to my friend in Connolly about 2 years ago, we were walking and I walked onto the train and next thing he was looking up at me, luckly the driver was looking out of his window and it was the door closest to him. Train was about to pull away.

Her friends will have got some fright, I did for sure.

My cousin when she was pregnant fell down the gap while boarding the (old 18.18) Longford on platform 7 at connolly a few years ago. If it wasn't for the fact that someone inside the carriage saw her and pulled the emergency handle she would have suffered a similar fate.
