[13-1-2013] Disruption To Maynooth/M3 parkway/sligo services sunday morning

We would like to advise customers service alterations will take place on Sunday 13th January due to engineering works between Glasnevin and Maynooth.

The following services are cancelled;

08:40hrs Pearse - Maynooth
09:42hrs Pearse - Maynooth
10:30hrs Pearse - Maynooth

09:10hrs Pearse - M3 Parkway
10:13hrs Pearse - M3 Parkway
11:12hrs Pearse - M3 Parkway

09:40hrs Maynooth - Pearse
10:40hrs Maynooth - Pearse

10:10hrs M3 Parkway - Pearse
11:10hrs M3 Parkway - Pearse

The following services have been altered;

09:05hrs Connolly - Sligo: will operate with a bus transfer from Connolly to Maynooth and an onward train connection to Sligo

09:00hrs Sligo - Connolly: has been deferred until 09:30hrs

11:40hrs Maynooth - Pearse: has been deferred until 12:10hrs

There may be a 15-20minute delay may occur to DART, Belfast, Sligo, Rosslare, Maynooth & Northern commuter services up to 13:00hrs.

Is this stuff for real ?

Why would services other than Sligo/Maynooth be subject to anything other than minimal incidental delay ? Do they intend to hold DART trains in Connolly to connect with the re-timed morning service from Sligo or is this simply a lazy catch all ?

I presume this is to do with the commissioning of the new platform and the associated signalling.

Sure is.

Under EU 1371/2007 Irish Rail is obliged to give notice of any foreseeable delay. So if a Sligo train is late off Connolly it can get in the way of an Enterprise.

So delay is unlikely, and if there is Irish Rail have covered there backside

Given that many services are late day after day, they should be issuing a lot more warnings perhaps something along the lines of

"Due to the large number of speed restrictions, poor timetable design, inadequate infrastructure and indifferent operational practices, all DART, Commuter, Belfast Enterprise, Sligo and Rosslare services are subject to delays of 10 to 30 minutes every day for the indefinite future." Should cover off EU requirements as well as rear ends.
