Services have resumed between Carlow and Athy gardai requested line to be closed. 16.50 Waterford-Heuston delayed 65 minites and other services also 60 minites late.

THE Dublin-Waterford rail line has re-opened at Athy after the discovery of a pipebomb near the track.

Gardai cordoned off the area at 3pm and called in an Army bomb disposal team to defuse the device. The line was reopened at 7.15pm tonight.

It is understood the device did not contain all the components of a viable pipebomb, but more tests are currently being carried out by officers.

It was discovered just a couple of metres from the train line at the back of a housing estate.


Services stopped around 18.15.
